An Earlybird's Scrapbook

Early Langley Field Experiments
The Crash of the Roma, February 21, 1922

Book Two, Page Ninety Three

(Image eight of eight.)

This is perhaps the most poignant of the Roma photos. Lt. Byron T. Burt, Jr., the directional pilot who struggled in vain to stabilize the ship, watches the buring wreck of the Roma. Burt escaped with slight bruises.

This is the last of Scrapbook Two. Scrapbook Three covers the commissioning and early years of NAS Whidbey Island, 1942-44.
