The Scrapbooks of Willis B. Haviland

An Earlybird's Scrapbook

The Lafayette Escadrille

Book One, Page Twenty One, Left

Top - "My plane ready for a patrol over the lines."
Although the contrast is weak, this is a good view of Haviland's Nieuport 17 C.1, SFA No. 1887, that was painted an aluminum color and marked with the Sioux Indian head insignia placed just ahead of Haviland's white band.
Click here to view a high resolution crop of the cockpit.

Bottom - "Our field at Cachy. The First Battle of the Somme, 1916."
Haviland and his mechanics standing in front of the same aircraft.
