An Earlybird's Scrapbook

USNAS Porto Corsini (1918)

Book Two, Page Five

"Hangars and planes, Porto Corsini, Italy."

The star and latin "Salvat Ubi Ucet" is a latin motto painted on the hangar that means: "It saves whereupon it shines." It presumably refers to the star insigna of the 263th Squadriglia. The 263th Squadriglia, commanded by Capitano Ferruccio Capuzzo, was based in Porto Corsini before U.S. Naval Air Station installation. The present day hangars can be viewed here.
